Conflict Coaching may be the best avenue to support your clients and bring in an additional revenue stream. Phoenix Strategies, Inc. (PSI) approach is based on the Collaborative, Facilitative, Interest-Based (CFI) Model™. Relationship is at the heart of all organizational behaviors, services and training. So when clients contact PSI, our goal is to meet with our clients or students face-to-face. PSI offers a free consultation or appointment to hear their needs and answer their questions.
Sometimes couples come together to these complimentary sessions, still discerning whether divorce is their next step. Occasionally, we hear from couples that “therapy” is not a comfortable fit for them. At times, individuals relate that they are having difficulty getting the other person to the mediation table. These are all situations, where conflict coaching may be more appropriate. Instead of continuing to pursue mediation and potentially lose a client, offer the alternative of conflict coaching and discuss how this may work to satisfy their needs or interests.
Besides marital/couples coaching, conflict coaching is often beneficial in the workplace setting. Employers, managers or human resource managers may call you wanting solutions where one-on-one assistance, is more appropriate than mediation. Here is an example: A director contacted PSI, describing a situation where a manager lacked self-awareness. The manager believed she engaged her reports in planning and decision making; however, the reports complained to the director about the manager’s dictatorial style. A 360 conflict management assessment tool, providing feedback from the manager’s reports, peers and boss was used. The results provided valuable talking points for several follow-on conflict coaching sessions. There are other assessment tools that provide individuals with typical response styles, behaviors and hot buttons specific to dispute resolution. What I like about these conflict management assessments is these are not personality inventories. These tools are designed to address conflict and therefore become useful tools that can be integrated into conflict coaching processes.
